From Proto-Indo-Aryan *HyáHtā, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *HyáHtā, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁yn̥h₂tēr. Cognate with Latin janitrīcēs, Ancient Greek ἐνάτηρ (enátēr).
