From Old Marathi लहाणा (lahāṇā), लहाना (lahānā) , लहानाल (lahānāla), लान (lāna), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀮𑀡𑁆𑀳 (laṇha), from Sanskrit श्लक्ष्ण (ślakṣṇa), from Proto-Indo-European *slǵ-s-nós. Cognate with Konkani लान (lān), Hindi नन्हा (nanhā), Gujarati નાનું (nānũ).
