Borrowed from Sanskrit लिपि (lipi), from Old Persian 𐎮𐎡𐎱𐎡 (dipi), from Elamite [Term?], from Akkadian 𒁾 (ţuppu, “tablet, document, letter”), from Sumerian 𒁾 (dub, “tablet”). Compare to Gujarati લિપિ (lipi), Hindi लिपि (lipi), Punjabi ਲਿਪੀ (lipī) / ਲਿਪਿ (lipi), Bengali লিপি (lipi) and Malayalam ലിപി (lipi).
