From Proto-Indo-Aryan *śr̥Hngám, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ĉr̥Hngám, from Proto-Indo-European *ḱr̥h₂nós, from *ḱerh₂- (“head, horn”). Cognate with Old Church Slavonic сръна (srŭna, “roedeer”), Hittite [script needed] (surna, “horn”), Latin cornū, Old English horn (whence English horn).
