From Proto-Tai *koːᶜ (“also”). Cognate with Northern Thai ᨣᩴ᩵, Lao ກໍ (kǭ) or ກໍ່ (kǭ), Tai Dam ꪁꪷ꫁, Shan ၵေႃႈ (kōa) or ၵေႃး (kóa), Ahom 𑜀𑜦𑜡 (koo) or 𑜀𑜦𑜨𑜡 (keoaa). Compare Old Khmer ka, *ko, *kar (“a conjunction marking a consequential clause; to happen, to occur; to begin to start; etc”), Modern Khmer ក៏ (kɑɑ).
