ობოლი
Georgian
Etymology
From Proto-Georgian-Zan *obol- (“orphan”). Cognate with Mingrelian ომბოლი (omboli).
Starostin connects it with Proto-North-Caucasian *HubV̆ and considers the comparison with Proto-Indo-European *orbho- to be problematic. Compare Avar гьобол (hobol, “stranger, guest”).
Ačar̩ean derives from Old Armenian որբ (orb).
