From Old Georgian ყრუ (q̇ru), ყრუჲ (q̇ruy), from Proto-Georgian-Zan *q̇ur-u-, from *q̇ur- (“ear”) (whence also ყური (q̇uri)). Cognates include Laz ყუჯა (q̇uǯa, “deaf”).
