Etymology
From 御器かぶり (gokikaburi), which came from 御器 (goki, “dish”) + かぶり (kaburi, “biting”). Up until the Meiji era, this used to be the word for "cockroach". Due to typographical errors, the か became omitted. The original form still exists today in certain dialects, and furthermore there are variations of it across dialects as well.
