Etymology

Wasei eigo (和製英語), from English power + up, equivalent to パワー (pawā, noun) + アップ (appu, verb), literally “to up power or abilities”. Not to be confused with English power up (to charge with electrical power, verb) which is from power (verb) + up (adverb).
