Etymology 2
First attested in the Worin seokbo (月印釋譜 / 월인석보), 1459, as Middle Korean 쇠 (swoy). Congate with Jeju 쒜 (sswe).
According to Fukui et al. (2017), might be related with Old Chinese 鎖 (*soːlʔ, “to lock”), by the meanings as "key, lock" and that Pyeongan dialectal form 쇄 (swae) coincide with Sino-Korean word 쇄 (鎖, swae).[1]
