Old Persian
Etymology
There are two proposals.
- A diminutive of [script needed] (arša-, “bear”), from Proto-Indo-European *h₂ŕ̥tḱos (“bear”). Typologically compare Latin Ursula (literally “little bear”).
- From [script needed] (aršan-, “male”), on which see ἄρσην (ársēn).
