From Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hsumánas, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁su-ménes. Synchronically analyzable as 𐬵𐬎 (hu, “good”) + 𐬨𐬀𐬥𐬀𐬵 (manah, “mind”).
