Etymology

From a style of cant used by Afro-Americans in the 1970s and popularized by rapper Snoop Dogg (see -izzle). Possibly first used by the hip-hop group UTFO in their 1984 single "Roxanne, Roxanne".

Usage notes

Characteristic of African American Vernacular English. Usually inserted after the first syllable.
