Etymology

From French Cambodge and Portuguese Camboja. Both these words are derived from Middle Khmer Kambuja (Modern Khmer កម្ពុជា (kampuciə)). Ultimately from Sanskrit काम्बोज (kāmboja, the name of a tribe mentioned in Hindu scripture).
