Etymology
From Proto-Norse *Aiwa-rikiaR (literally “ever ruler”), or *Aina-rikiaR (literally “one ruler”). *Aiwa- is cognate to Latin aevum (“life, lifetime”). *Aina- stems from Proto-Germanic *ainaz (“one”) and is cognate to Latin ūnus (“one”). The second part, *-rikiaR stems from Proto-Germanic *rīkijaz, cognate to Latin rēx (“king”).
