Possibly from Kyrgyz кырк кыз (kırk kız, “forty girls”), a reference to the Epic of Manas unifying forty small tribes against the Chinese and the Muslim expansion; or possibly from Kyrgyz кырк ууз" (kırk uuz") (the forty tribes); or possibly from "кыргыс" (imperishable, inextinguishable, undying).
