Mittwoch
German
Etymology
From Middle High German mittewoche, from Old High German mittawehha (literally “middle of the week”), calqued on Ecclesiastical Latin media hebdomas (compare Dalmatian misedma, Old Italian mezzedima), which presumably replaced an earlier *wuotanestag (“Wuotan’s day”). Compare Low German Middeweek, English midweek.
Pronunciation
Mittwoch (file) - IPA(key): /ˈmɪtvɔχ/, [ˈmɪtʰvɔχ]
