Rasen
See also: rasen
German
Etymology
From north-eastern Middle High German rase, probably from Middle Low German wrāse (“sod, turf”), though the two could also be cognate forms. Further origin uncertain. Perhaps a variant of Middle Low German wāse, from Proto-Germanic *wasô, though this has been contested. With the latter are cognate Old High German waso (archaic German Wasen), Old Dutch waso (Dutch waas), Old French gason (French gazon).
