From Proto-Indo-European *h₃rinéHti (“move”), present of *h₃reiH-. Etymologically identical with Illyrian 'ῥίνος άχλύς' (Illyrian *rhinos (“fog, mist”)) and Messapic ῥινός (“fog, mist, cloud”).[1]
