From *katus (“battle”) + *wolnāmnos, from *wolnāmon- (“ruler”), from *wolnāti (“to rule, govern”), from Proto-Indo-European *wol-néh₂-ti, from *wol- (“to be strong, rule”) (compare Proto-Celtic *walos (“prince, chief”)).[1]
