Probably from Proto-Uralic *lëpći, in which case cognate to Erzya лавсь (lavsʹ, “cradle”), Eastern Mari лепш (lepš, “cradle”), Tundra Nenets [script needed] (jebcᵊ, “cradle”), Nganasan [script needed] (labsə, “cradle”) and Selkup [script needed] (ćopsə, “cradle”).
