Probably from Proto-Uralic *lëpći, in which case cognate to Erzya лавсь (lavsʹ, cradle), Eastern Mari лепш (lepš, cradle), Tundra Nenets [script needed] (jebcᵊ, cradle), Nganasan [script needed] (labsə, cradle) and Selkup [script needed] (ćopsə, cradle).
