Proto-Finnic
Etymology
Possibly akin to Mansi [script needed] (nē̮r, “pine nut”), Khanty нахәр (naxər, “pine nut”) (suggesting a root *nëkrɜ), but this is uncertain due to the semantic difference, and the atypical sound structure: most Finnic words with consonant clusters such as *-kr-, *-kl-, *-pr-, *-tr- are loanwords (cf. e.g. *atra, *neekla, *sepra, *takla).
