Proto-Finnic
Etymology
Unknown, but most likely akin to Proto-Samic *vuornōtēk (< *varno-). Sammallahti (1998: 191) suggests assimilation from earlier *vatno-; but contrast the development in e.g. *litna, *vatnas.
