Etymology
From Proto-Balto-Slavic *āˀźina, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂eǵ-ino-, from *h₂eǵ- (“goat”). Equivalent to *azь (“goat”) + *-ьnъ.
Baltic cognates include Lithuanian oženà (“goatskin”), ožìnis (“goat-”).
Indo-European cognates include Sanskrit अजिन (ajina, “(animal) skin”).
