Etymology
From Proto-Balto-Slavic *dirs-, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰr̥s-u-, from *dʰers-. Cognate with Latvian drùoss, drùošs (“couageous”), Lithuanian dzrąsùs (“couageous”), Old Prussian dirsos, dyrsos, Ancient Greek θρασύς (thrasús, “bold”), Sanskrit धृषु (dhṛṣu, “bold, courageous, strong”).
