Etymology
From Proto-Indo-European *kr̥ko-, a k-extension of *(s)ker- (“to turn around”).
Indo-European cognates include Sanskrit कृकाट (kṛkāṭa), Gaulish cricon. Unconvincing with Old Norse kverk, Latin gurges, gurgulío.
