Proto-Slavic
Etymology
*kolo (“wheel, circle”) + *-ačь, presumably due to its rounded shape.
The similarity to Middle Persian kwlʾck' (/kulāčag/, “small, round bun”) and Ancient Greek κόλλιξ (kóllix, “roll or loaf of bread”) may be coincidental as it is difficult to explain through usual models of inheritance and borrowing.
