Etymology
From the root *kor- (“cut”) + *-yto (see *kopyto), from Proto-Indo-European *(s)kor-, from *(s)ker-. For similar formations, compare Lithuanian prãkartas (“manger, trough”), Old Prussian pracartis (“trough”), from the root *(s)kort- an extension of *(s)kor-.
