Etymology

Reflects Proto-Indo-European *koséyeti from Proto-Indo-European *ḱes- (“to castrate”)/*kes- (“to scratch, to comb”). Equivalent to *kosъ (“skew, slanted”) +‎ *-iti. Possibly akin to Latin careō (“to lack, to be separated”), Latin castrō (“to castrate, to prune”).
