From Proto-Balto-Slavic *lēnas, from Proto-Indo-European *leh₁-en-os, from *leh₁- (“lazy, slow”). Cognate with Latvian lēns (“lazy”), Lithuanian lė́nas (“lazy”), Latin lenis.
