From Proto-Balto-Slavic *parśas (author?) or *porś- (Derksen), from Proto-Indo-European *pórḱos.
Baltic cognates include Lithuanian paršas, Old Prussian prastian.
Indo-European cognates include Latin porcus, Ancient Greek πόρκος (pórkos), Proto-Germanic *farhaz, Kurdish purs, Khotanese рāsi (from *раrsа-), Middle Irish orc.
