Borrowing from Iranian, from Proto-Iranian *raHíš, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *raHíš, from Proto-Indo-European *reh₁ís (“wealth, goods”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬭𐬀𐬉𐬬𐬀𐬥𐬙 (raēvant, “rich, splendid”), Sanskrit रयि (rayí, “wealth, goods”).
