Borrowing from Iranian, from Proto-Iranian *raHíš, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *raHíš, from Proto-Indo-European *reh₁ís (wealth, goods). Cognate with Avestan 𐬭𐬀𐬉𐬬𐬀𐬥𐬙‎ (raēvant‎, rich, splendid), Sanskrit रयि (rayí, wealth, goods).
