Usage notes
- The official English name of the state is Ireland, as given in the 1937 Constitution. The Republic of Ireland is "the description of the state", as given in the 1948 Republic of Ireland Act of the Oireachtas. The term is frequently used to differentiate the state from the island, which also contains Northern Ireland, a part of the United Kingdom.
