Simon
English
Etymology
New Testament version of Biblical Hebrew שִׁמְעוֹן (shim'ón, “hearkening”), shaped to look like a Greek name; confer Σίμων (Símōn) and Σῖμος (Sîmos, “flat-nose”). In Britain, confusion arose at an early date due to similarity with native Sigmund (Siegmund), and its Norman introduced variant, Simund.
