Usage notes
- The dependent form is bi.
- Am bi thu ann? - Will you be there?
- Cha bhi sin furasta. - That will not be easy.
- Nach bi am bùth fosgailte? - Won't the shop be open?
- The emphatic form, used especially when answering a question, is bithidh.
- Am bi e aig an taigh a-màireach? - Bithidh.
- Will he be at home tomorrow? - Yes.
- Am bi e aig an taigh a-màireach? - Bithidh.
- Also used for the present habitual form, i.e. denoting current and ongoing regular activity. A periphrastic construction with verbal noun.
- Bidh mi ag èisteachd ris an rèidio.
- “I listen to the radio (often)"
- Am bi thu a’ cluich tàileasg? - Bithidh.
- "Do you play chess?” - Yes. (Lit. "Shall you play chess?” “I shall.”)
