Etymology
Probably from a Vulgar Latin root *brosca, from broscus (compare Medieval Latin bruscus). Possibly linked to Ancient Greek βροτάχος (brotákhos), whence also brotac. Compare Aromanian broascã. Compare also Albanian breshkë, Old French bruesche, Italian rospo, Milanese Lombard brosco, Ladino rusk.
