From Turkish kalpak,[1] from Old Turkic, from Proto-Turkic[2] or from Middle Persian kwlʾp̄k' (kulāfak, “little cap; calyx”), diminutive of kwlʾp̄ (kulāf, “cap, bonnet”),[3][4] (Persian کلاهک (kolâhak), diminutive of کلاه (kolâh, “hat”)), or from common Turkic *qalpaq.[5]
