From Latin cervesia, variant of cervisia (compare Aragonese zerbeza, Catalan cervesa, Galician cervexa, Portuguese cerveja), perhaps related to cremor (“juice, thick broth”), but likely from Gaulish *kerβ ̃-, e-vocalism of Proto-Celtic *kormi (“beer”), from Proto-Indo-European *ḱr̥h₃m- (“soup”).
