Etymology
From Proto-Brythonic *krɨxɨð (compare Cornish kerghydh, Breton kerc’heiz), alteration of earlier *korxsiyos (compare Old Breton corcid), from Proto-Celtic *korxsā (compare Irish corr (“heron, stork”)), from which came also the Celtiberian ancestor of Spanish garza and Portuguese garça.
