From Old Swedish fordriva,[1] from Middle Low German vordriven.[2], from Old Saxon fardrīvan, from Proto-Germanic *fradrībaną, equivalent to för- + driva. Cognate with Danish fordrive, Norwegian Bokmål fordrive, Norwegian Nynorsk fordriva, fordrive, Old Norse fordrífa, German vertreiben and English fordrive.
