Cognate with Dutch verslinden (“to devour”), Middle Low German vorslinden (“to devour, eat up”), German verschlinden, verschlingen (“to devour, swallow up”), Gothic 𐍆𐍂𐌰𐍃𐌻𐌹𐌽𐌳𐌰𐌽 (fraslindan, “to gobble, swallow, devour”).
