From Middle French garou, from Old French garoul, garwaf, garval, garvalf, wareul (“werewolf”), from Old Frankish *werwolf (“werewolf”), from Proto-Germanic *weraz (“man”) + Proto-Germanic *wulfaz (“wolf”).
