From Arabic زَرْقُون (zarqūn, “cinnabar, bright red”), from Persian زرگون (zargun) / زریون (zaryun), from Middle Persian 𐭦𐭫𐭢𐭥𐭭 (zargōn). Compare the doublet zircone.
