Etymology
From Middle French [Term?], from Old French hestre, from Frankish *haistr, from Proto-Germanic *haistraz (“young tree”). Compare Dutch heester (“bush”). Displaced native fau, from Latin fagus, which can still be found in faîne (“beechnut”).
