Etymology
Of Finnic or possibly Finno-Ugric origin. Cognate to Ingrian harva, Finnish harva, Finnish *harvas. Compare Khanty турәп (turəp, “sparse”) and Erzya чуро (čuro, “rare, sparse”). The further Finno-Ugric cognates are phonologically irregular.
