(physics) An isentropic state or system

  In order to avoid confusion with the earth's surface we may refer to an isentropic surface as an isentrope. The motion of air can best be resolved into motion along the isentrope which requires no heat, and motion across the isentrope which requires the supply or loss of heat by radiation otherwise.
