kailums m (1st declension)

1. nakedness, nudity

   pilnīgs kailums ― complete, full nudity

2. baldness, bald spot

   viņam bija pavisam maz matu uz galvas, bet tos pašus nedaudzos, kas auga gar ausīm, viņš bija tik veikli pārsukājis pāri galvas vidum, ka gandrīz izdevās tā kailumu ― he had almost no hair on his head, but those few (hairs) which grew along the ears, he had combed them so neatly over the middle of his head that he almost managed to hide its nakedness (= baldness)

3. (about trees, plants) having no leaves

   pavasarīgs koku kailums ― the tree's spring nakedness

4. (about soil, ground) barenness

   kāpu kailumu šur tur apslēpa sili ar kadiķu krūmiem ― the little forests with juniper bushes hid her and there the nakedness (= barenness) of the dunes

5. (about rooms) emptiness, having no furniture

   istabas kailums ― the room's nakedness (= lack of furniture)

6. (about people) poverty, need

   visā kailumā ― in all nakedness (= very poor)
