Maybe from Proto-Indo-European *leh₂p- (“to shine”) and so cognate with Old Norse leiptr (“lightning”), Lithuanian liepsnà (“flame”), Ancient Greek λάμπω (lámpō, “to shine”), Lithuanian lópė (“light”), Latvian lāpa (“torch”)[1].
