liy
Aghu Tharrnggala
Etymology
Thought by Barry Alpher to be a loanword because it retains its initial consonant. Ultimately from Proto-Pama-Nyungan *dirra, *rirra, *lirra (“tooth”). Compare Kuku-Yalanji dirra (“tooth”), Warrgamay yirra (“tooth”), and general Warungu rirra and the Gu(d)jal additional forms riyala and wurriya, all meaning "tooth".
