louzán
Galician
Etymology
Debated. From Galician-Portuguese loução, from *lautiano, derived either from Gothic 𐍆𐌻𐌰𐌿𐍄𐍃 (flauts, “boastful, conceited”), from Proto-Germanic *flautaz, or from Latin lautus (“washed; refined”). Older meanings favor the Germanic origin, but the loss of the initial f- would be irregular.
Cognate with Portuguese loução and Spanish lozano.
